item Industrietechnik combines lean production and ergonomics

When planning manual production activities, it’s crucial to map out both individual process steps and intralogistics efficiently and ergonomically.

In line with the lean philosophy, item is exhibiting an example application at LogiMAT that shows how ergonomics and efficiency can be combined. It is an electrically height-adjustable work bench with an integrated mobile FIFO rack built using components from the item Lean Production Building Kit System.

The overall system is a permanent work bench that offers the user ergonomically optimised working conditions. Efficient material supply systems for components ensure easy access thanks to short reaching distances. When it comes to changing over the working environment to manufacture a different product variant, all the user needs to do is roll the FIFO rack out of the way and replace it with another – all in a matter of seconds.

Low-cost automation mechanisms can also be used to remove empty containers and supply new materials directly into the user’s handling area in one step.

What’s more, the FIFO rack can be fitted with a Pivot Arm for stowing product-specific tools.

To optimise the ergonomics of the system, both the bench and FIFO rack are height-adjustable, meaning they can be adjusted to suit a range of users. This also means the application can be brought into line with lean production requirements after the shortest possible setup times.

The end result is that this combined lean production and ergonomics concept helps companies boost their productivity rates, save costs by using more efficient processes, and look after the health of their employees.
