History

Machine Building Systems was founded in Wirksworth in 1989 by Stuart Mitchell after coming into contact with the Item system working for Black & Decker. Having been impressed by the ease and speed of using the item system to make modifications to a machine, he learned that there was no UK distributor. Seeing how difficult it was to import, Stuart sensed an opportunity and set up Machine Building Systems. Following rapid growth, MBS moved to a new purpose-built factory in Ripley in 1995, which was then further extended in 1997. After enjoying continued success we increased our stock holdings and cut lead times by expanding to a second building in 2007.

From then on MBS has gone from strength to strength, cementing ourselves as market leaders in range and quality. Investment in our equipment and team was key to our growth, with innovative solutions like our automated parts storage in 2015.
